Mile - 5k - 10k - On the Track!

Online registration closes at midnight on Wednesday, May 15th. Price Increase to $50 for race day registration. Registration closes 30 minutes before each event; there is no race day registration for open 10k runners. Race day registration will be limited, and we may shut it down early if we reach capacity. Register online to secure your spot.

Purchase $5 GA spectator tickets. If you’re not racing, pacing, volunteering, or coaching, you need a GA ticket. Beat the lines and buy them online!

Featuring special guest Alan Webb and introducing the Webb Mile!

Alan is a Reston, VA native and former American Record holder in the mile. We will be honoring him by naming the mile “The Webb Mile”

If you can maintain a 10:00 mile, you can run in our open races!

Free youth mile (13 & under)! Just grab GA spectator tickets below and sign up at the meet (must be signed up by 7:45 pm)

Entry Fee: $40 per runner (can run multiple events) and includes a complimentary beer from Aslin or another (non-alcoholic) beverage.

Race Day Entry Fee: $50. Registration closes 20 minutes before each event; there is no race day registration for open 10k runners.

Your purchase supports Light Horse Track Club, a northern Virginia nonprofit running team dedicated to supporting runners of all levels and enhancing the DC-metro area running scene.

Runner and Event information!

We’re excited to offer fast races for all in a festive atmosphere. Grab a PR in the mile, 5k (and/or) 10k, and then grab an Aslin beer!

  • All ages are welcome to run. Register here at Direct Athletics. You will be asked for a “seed time” use any recent time or you can estimate your current ability.

  • We will thoughtfully arrange the heats based on entry times with the fastest runners in our Select heats.

  • Open races will be men and women combined, and select races will have women's races first, followed by men's.

  • The facility will open at 5 pm.

  • The GMU Fieldhouse will be open as well

  • Food and drink will be available for purchase, including Aslin beer.

  • Any person not competing, volunteering, or pacing will need a GA spectator ticket - you can purchase those here.

  • Children four and under get in free.

  • You can leave and re-enter the facility.

  • No outside food or drink besides water or sports nutritional items is allowed. Bags are allowed.

HEATS/SECTIONS

  • Preliminary heats will be released on Thursday, but will be updated the day-of the meet due to race-day registrations and scratches.

  • The open 5k will have two sections. Currently, the first race will be entry times of 18:30 & over; the second race will be 15:50 - 18:30

  • The open mile will have five sections. Currently, the first section will be entry times of 6:00 & over.

CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

  • Please check-in as soon as you get to the meet and pick up your bib number. If you do not check in, you will be scratched.

  • 15-minutes prior to your race return to the check-in area to get your hip number and starting assignment. Secure your hip number with safety pins. Be RACE READY at this point.

  • After your final check-in, you will head as a group to the track for your race. As soon as one race finishes, the next one begins.

BAG DROP AREA

  • We will have an unofficial bag drop area near our check-in area. This will not be a ticketed bag drop situation.

OPEN RACES

  • Our open races are for anyone who can maintain a 10:00 pace or faster in the 10k, 5k, or mile.

  • You’re guaranteed a fast, flat course with no 90 or 180-degree turns! Whether you’ve never run a track race before or you’ve run a hundred, you are welcome here.

  • We will run two heats of the open 5k and five heats of the open mile. You will be placed in a heat based upon your seed time.

  • Heats will run slowest to fastest and will be men and women combined.

YOUTH MILE

  • Open to any child 13 & Under who can maintain a 15:00 mile or faster.

  • We’ll run one section and combine boys & girls; if we have over 30 kids signed, up we will split into two sections by ages.

  • Grab $5 GA Tickets for your runner(s) and family and sign up to run at the meet - must be registered by 7:45 pm.

SELECT RACES:

Here is the current outlook on our select sections as of Tuesday, May 14th. Note, the men’s and women’s select 10ks will be combined.

  • Women's Webb Mile: 5:00 - 6:00 / Three women looking to break 5. Pacer going out at 5:00 through 900 meters.

  • Women's 5000: 15:30 - 18:00 / Two women aiming to run 15:30. Featuring Grace Moore and Susanna Sullivan

  • Women's 10000: 33:00 - 38:00 / Perry Shoemaker is going for the 50-54 American Record (37:04). Pacer at 34:00 for most of the race.

  • Men's Webb Mile: 4:00 - 4:10 / Eight men looking to break 4. Pacer going out at 4:00 pace through 900 meters.

  • Men’s 5000: 13:40 - 15:30 / Pacer going out at 13:40 & another at 14:00 pace through 2k

  • Men's 10000: 31:00 - 34:00 / We'll have a good pack from 31:00 - 32:00

AWARDS

  • The men’s and women’s winners of the Webb Mile, select 5k and select 10k, will receive a pair of New Balance shoes. Shoes are subject to availability.

DIRECTIONS / PARKING:

  • 4400 University Drive, Fairfax, Virginia 22030 - the outdoor track and field complex is behind the fieldhouse. Enter “George Mason University Fieldhouse” into your GPS

  • Parking available adjacent to the track

  • Check out driving directions and construction/traffic alerts.

  • The nearest airports to campus are Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Washington Reagan Airport (DCA). Shuttles are available through private companies, as are cabs.

  • George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus is accessible via Metro Bus and Cue Bus (Fairfax City bus). Mason is also located near the Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Metro stop, and Mason provides regular shuttles from the Metro stop to campus. Check out shuttle and bus information.

PROHIBITED ITEMS:

  • Any food or beverage except for water or sport nutritional food or drink.

  • Weapons (including, without limitation, pocket knives), fireworks and other illegal drugs and substances

  • Animals (except service animals)

  • Beach balls and other inflatable items

  • Laser pens and laser pointers

  • Skateboards, hoverboards, scooters for non-ADA use, and wheeled footwear

  • Drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles

  • Toy guns or toy knives (including, without limitation, water guns)

  • Any other item deemed dangerous or inappropriate
